Administrator’s Bi-Weekly Review
Pay Period Ending December 24th – Plus “COVID UPDATE #73”

We are quickly tick-tocking to the end of 2022, as I write this at end of business day on 12-30-2022. It’s funny how our weeks don’t change much throughout the year, even on this the HOLIDAY WEEK of all weeks. Our providers are still rounding on patients, our ED is still as busy as any week this year, and patients are still desiring last minute services and Clinic visits to deal with the likely “bugs of the season”. Life doesn’t change a lot in a hospital environment, although the parking lot will be much emptier for the next few days, as most of our staff gets an extended weekend off.

It has been a good ending to our year on two welcome accounts: first, it appears that our Assisted Living Center will be the benefactor of some much needed relief funds, still available from some carryover of the Cares Act. The Center has weathered a difficult three years of COVID disruptions and these dollars will be put to very much needed uses and paybacks. Secondly, thanks to some nice fourth quarter vendor incentives, we have been able to commit to the ultimate purchase and delivery of our 3D Mammography system, although some additional fund raising is still a contingency for the timing of its arrival.

Lately, years come and go more quickly it seems, and 2022 had its definite highs and lows. I do think it will be remembered as a turning point for some important things affecting MCH, namely the conversion to a new institutional-wide EMR, the winding down of a lengthy pandemic, and the retirement of one physician to be replaced by the arrival and looming arrival of two new young doctors, hoping to resurrect our OB program. So many hands were involved in all of these highlights and I thank each and every one of you that worked so hard to get us to this exciting new start of 2023!

As we begin to further our plans for the New Year, I encourage everyone to dream big for a moment and even write down some aspirations you may have for broadening the scope of services we now deliver in MCH. We have some empty spaces that afford us a great opportunity to think of something new and previously unoffered here in Council Grove. Please share your thoughts with me.

Thanks and HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!! Stay safe and get those two Purple Teams a win on New Year’s Eve!!
