Public Service Announcement

Over the past six weeks, free COVID testing has been made available in many Communities across Kansas, via a State introduced program. Effective this Wednesday, January 13, 2021, Council Grove has been added to that list of Communities. Test kits have arrived and increased staffing has been added to the Morris County Public Health Department’s team to enable self-directed testing for Morris County citizens:  Between the hours of 11:00AM and 1:00 PM, Monday through Thursday, in the drive through area behind the Health Department at 221 Hockaday St. No symptoms are required in order to be tested. Do expect some wait time as demand is likely to be high in the early going. Also expect some paper work to be necessary, as tracking of this additional testing is critical for the States reporting requirements.

A saliva test option is available, but to utilize this option it is critical that no intake of food, liquids, or chewing matter be taken for at least 30 minutes prior to the test, or the testing agent is not effective.

Appointments are not necessary as the testing will be done on a first come first served basis. The turnaround for results will be in the 2-3 work-day range, as collections will be delivered to Wichita for processing. If you have insurance and prefer a scheduled test, you are welcome to still come to the hospital.

Thanks for attending to this opportunity. The program is not budgeted to go for many more weeks, so DO NOT tarry if you want to be tested for free.
