Morris County Hospital Recognized as a Top 100 Critical Access Hospital by The Chartis Center for Rural Health

April 1st, 2023 – Morris County Hospital in Council Grove, KS today announced it has been recognized as a 2023 Top 100 Critical Access Hospital. Compiled by The Chartis Center for Rural Health, this annual recognition program honors outstanding performance among the nation’s rural hospitals based on the results of the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX™.

“You know…” offers Kevin Leeper, Administrator, “rural medicine is just a tough business because of the complexities of low population density and high distances to travel. But those of us practicing it, love it because of the dedication and loyalties our teammates have in supporting each other, and in sharing in the “rural rewards” of a less stressful lifestyle and local hospital governance. At MCH we are not pursuing a national ranking per se…we just pursue treating our patients as guests into our family of workers. The fact that we performed at a high level on someone else’s scale is very gratifying, but we know that meeting our guests’ needs is the most important thing we can collectively do. When we dip below our standards, we really try to take that situation to heart and learn and grow from those moments. I extend my thanks, my appreciation, and my congratulations to everyone who is associated with the MCH family!!”

“Across the nation, top 100 rural providers continue to serve as a source of inspiration for hospital leadership teams and staff working diligently every day to improve the delivery of care within their local communities,” said Michael Topchik, National Leader, the Chartis Center for Rural Health. “The list of award winners in each category is as geographically diverse as we’ve seen in some time, which is wonderful to see. We’re thrilled to be able to honor the outstanding efforts of these top performing rural hospitals.”

Now in its 13th year, the INDEX has established itself as the industry’s most comprehensive and objective assessment of rural hospital performance. Leveraging publicly available data, the INDEX is trusted by rural hospitals, health systems with rural affiliates, hospital associations and state offices of rural health across the country to measure and monitor performance across a variety of areas impacting hospital operations and finance.
